Greetings I'm new to the list and to using linux audio stuff outside of a distro other than Ubuntu-Studio. I'm very ready to pop some questions. After having success getting my Echo Audiofire8 (firewire device) to work with Ubuntu Studio, Jack and Ardour, etc I thought I'd take a crack at it under another distro. Last night I made a clean install of Linux Mint's Debian (LMDE) spinoff and as it is I got Jack to start up with the Audiofire8 and got sounds in Ardour. Exciting though with way too much latency so tweaking settings in Jack to reduce it just made Jack crash. Where do I go from here? Would I want to try a realtime kernel? And that could solve everything? So I googled for that a bit and came up with the Liquorix kernel, installed that, unfortunately I don't even get as far as I did before, Jack just crashes no matter how high the latency would be. If anyone can give me some tips I'll be very grateful. I'm ready to post the output of anything or show any settings. But first I'll ask, is it possible to get low latency under a non-RT kernel? Thanks everyone!!! Adam |
