Do you have all of the relevant IEEE1394 features enabled in your kernel?

I think at a minimum, CONFIG_IEEE1394, CONFIG_IEEE1394_OCHI1394, and 
CONFIG_IEEE1394_RAWIP should be built into the kernel, or at least built 
as modules to be loaded by the kernel.
