After some grepping, I found the match tagging being added in
org/exist/storage/serializers/nativeSerializer.java, controlled by the value
of highlightMatches, which seems to be hardcoded to true in the parent class
org/exist/storage/serializers/Serializer.java

But it doesn't work for me. Anyway, no doubt we'll be told in due course...
