Hi, I don't have much experience with EJB and J2EE, but Christofer Dutz is currently working to add a "local" database mode to eXist's XML:DB API implementation (which will no longer depend on a running XML-RPC server). Maybe this would help to integrate eXist into an EJB. You may also access eXist directly, via calls to the DBBroker interface, which contains the core functionality of eXist (DBBroker objects are synchronized. You may obtain them using class BrokerFactory). For examples you may have a look at the RpcServer implementation, which wrapps XML-RPC calls to DBBroker.
