Hi Erik, > In the last month I reported three eXist 2.0 bugs. But.. nothing happened, > no confirmation, no denial, nothing. I remember at least one of your reports, but did not respond because it was obviously a bug which has to be fixed (the failing type check). It thus landed on my personal bug list, though with a lower priority than other issues I have on it. Most people post their bugs to the mailing list, so this is what I am primarily monitoring. The bug tracker is not monitored as frequently, though I have the impression that most bug reports are commented on sooner or later. This is mostly thanks to Dannes who reads and forwards important reports to the rest of us. It would sure be good to have more people like him ;-) > Can somebody tell me what I should do if I think I found a bug. Can I simply > put it in the eXist bug tracker? Yes, sure. The bug tracker is there to remind us of issues we may forget otherwise. It may take a while until someone picks up an issue, but we do not just delete bugs. For critical issues, I would recommend to do both: post a description to the list with a request for confirmation *and* open a bug report so we don't forget. > So maybe I follow a wrong procedure? Or maybe… there is no procedure. If > not, shouldn’t we establish one, because otherwise there is no reason to > report bugs anyway. We have discussed this before and the critical point always is to find someone who feels responsible. Unfortunately, housekeeping work like this or writing documentation is never as attractive as coding cool new features. I'm thus always happy if I see people cleaning up something. Housekeeping may not be very rewarding but it is as important for the project as any development work. Wolfgang |
