Also you can use the xml editor Oxygen XML http://www.oxygenxml.com/ to create collections (folders like) and xml documents. You can connect exist-db to oxygen to make it pretty easy. Oxygen XML is pricey unless you can get an educational / academic license which is what we have at U of richmond. You can connect eXist-db with Oxygen xml this way http://www.oxygenxml.com/eXist_support.html We use both the Java client and Oxygen. But mostly Oxygen.
