My thought as well: I briefly considered this when thinking up a useable/ful format, but you'll end up with much more parsing/post-processing work, for just a simple bit of information. Looking at the XPointer spec again made me realize that I'm all for standards, though not for all of them ;-). (Now if I only knew /any/thing of Java I'd jump in immediately and try to implement it.)
