What is interesting is that when eXist starts up (in my Tomcat container), I do get the following message to the console log: Fri Mar 02 08:42:52 EST 2007 - eXist-DB configuration=H:\Tomcat6\webapps\exist2\WEB-INF\conf.xml So the exist initialization is finding the conf.xml file location just fine. It seems that later on, in the XQuery code somewhere, when you try to access various exist functions, the config fails.
