Christian and Till, Alright... I backed off a little. Installed RedHat 6.1 with X, graphics manip, software dev, and kernel dev. I documented everything from the first attempt and installed as many deps as I could, including FAM as an RPM. Then I followed the prescribed order of appearance suggested @ e.org. No compilation problems whatsoever. E. is running beautifully and FAM and efsd appear to be working as well as could be expected. I would suggest that the problems I encountered were related to dependencies more so than anything else. My initial installation of RedHat 6.0 included only X and kernel dev. I suppose this translated into missing headers etc. Like I said before I am not a developer and Linux, as an ecosystem, is still very foreign - what the hell is a header? I have no idea. I have a lot of reading to do... my only salvation is enough intuition to interpret error codes in a meaningful way and feed them to google. So, would it be worthwhile publishing my experience and some shots to a web page? Thanks for the responses, and in the future I will refrain from posting to the lists whilst under the influence of frustration and caffeine. solis ps. Till - This philosophy, these ideas, that it cannot be finite, therefore never finished is genius. I won't ask again :-) Christian Kreibich wrote: >"Lee S.
