Another idea from outside of the world, efreet icon search could in some case trigger thousand of call to stat (specifically when it doesn't find icon in the current theme). That's why we implemented efreet icon cache (disable by defaultm turn it on with configure). I do see a lag without it in elementary_test for freedesktop icon.
