Hello, we have prepared a new release of enGrid. Please read the release notes here: https://github.com/enGits/engrid/wiki/Release-Notes-1.4 A big thank you goes to Bruno Santos from blueCAPE ( http://www.bluecape.com.pt) for his help with this release. Hi to all! i have a "little" problem trying to export a model from Blender. I was following this tutorial http://engits.eu/wiki/index.php/Tutorials/Version1.2/Unstructured_Grids_for_OpenFOAM_With_Blender_and_enGrid Of course i adapted the commands to Blender 2.62 (the default blender version in ubuntu). Then i installed in Blender the scripts 2.59 i found here http://engrid.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=engrid/engrid;a=commit;h=0ed74b30e075f7090769f48040abdadbdf39ad10 So importing the model in enGrid i received this error "smallest edge length is 3.5". Thinking it was a version problem i tried Blender 2.63a , installing the 2.63a scripts, but the result is the same. Could anyone help me? Thank you |

Dear All, I was trying Engrid for a while. What I have noticed about the mesher which I believe is a big problem , is the inability to mesh symmetry planes with elegant boundary layer mesh. I have just noticed problem while I was trying to get a mesh for flat plate case. The program generates a mesh but the mesh has some distorted elements and I could not find a way to get a smooth boundary layer mesh for this simple case. Let me briefly define the steps for the mesh generation sequence. First I generated a rectangular prism with Salome solid model program. Then I meshed the surfaces and save the file in stl format. Then I opened the file in Engrid. The forward, backward and upper surfaces were defined as inlet and outlet boundary conditions and side surfaces were assigned as symmetry planes. Bottom surface was defined as no slip wall. When I tried to make the boundary layer mesh without erasing existing surface mesh the resulting boundary layer mesh was generated with abnormal spikes. Is there a remedy to cure this unlikely problem? Sincerely Yours. Mehmet |

Dear mailing-list subscribers, we have finalised the enGrid 1.2.0 release and the source code is now available on our server: http://files.engits.eu Furthermore binary packages are available for openSUSE 11.0, 11.1, and 11.2. These packages can be found in an openSUSE build service repository: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/ogloth In the future we will publish regular bug-fixes for this release and are planning to release 1.3 towards the end of 2010. The emphasis for 1.3 will be put on performance, robustness and documentation along with small improvements that arise from daily support or engineering tasks. Best regards, Oliver Gloth -- Dr.-Ing. I don't know what the problem is yet, but if you want to accelerate the compilation process, you can use "make -j2" since you have a dual-core processor (-j4 for quad-cores). What version of g++ do you use? Could you post the output of "g++ -v"? |

I just tested it here on a similar machine and it took about 5 minutes. Our nightly build tests (which include git clone and 4 build tests (debug+release with or without CGNS)) take about 26 minutes. I also checked the warning messages we currently have in the master branch and there don't seem to be any about freopen (altough this could depend on the compiler version). Which branch did you use? Those are only warning messages. They shouldn't prevent compilation. Did you get any error messages? While the QT packages from the repositories might work, I'm not sure about the VTK packages. We currently use VTK v5.4.2. Have you tried our installation script, which is available here?: http://engits.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=62 (If you've made a git checkout, you should actually already have it in "engrid/src/scripts") Mike Emanuele T. wrote: > Hi, i try to install engrid from git but c++ seems to be blocked on > this point > > make[1]: Entering directory `/home/sheldon/src/engrid/src' > g++ -c -pipe -DENGRID_VERSION=\"1.1-pre-release\" > -DGIT_DESCRIBE=\"openfoamgui_release2-371-gc179a8e\" -Wall > -Wno-deprecated -O2 -g -pipe -Wall -Wp,-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 > -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -m32 -march=i686 > -mtune=atom -fasynchronous-unwind-tables -D_REENTRANT -Wall -W > -DQT_NO_DEBUG -DQT_XML_LIB -DQT_OPENGL_LIB -DQT_GUI_LIB > -DQT_NETWORK_LIB -DQT_CORE_LIB -I/usr/lib/qt4/mkspecs/linux-g++ -I. > -I/usr/include/QtCore -I/usr/include/QtNetwork -I/usr/include/QtGui > -I/usr/include/QtOpenGL -I/usr/include/QtXml -I/usr/include > -I/usr/include/vtk -Inetgen_svn/netgen-mesher/netgen/nglib > -Inetgen_svn/netgen-mesher/netgen/libsrc/general -I/usr/X11R6/include > -Irelease -I. -o release/guimainwindow.o guimainwindow.cpp > guimainwindow.cpp: In constructor ‘GuiMainWindow::GuiMainWindow()’: > guimainwindow.cpp:140: warning: ignoring return value of ‘FILE* > freopen(const char*, const char*, FILE*)’, declared with attribute > warn_unused_result > guimainwindow.cpp: In constructor ‘GuiMainWindow::GuiMainWindow()’: > guimainwindow.cpp:140: warning: ignoring return value of ‘FILE* > freopen(const char*, const char*, FILE*)’, declared with attribute > warn_unused_result > guimainwindow.cpp: In constructor ‘GuiMainWindow::GuiMainWindow()’: > guimainwindow.cpp:140: warning: ignoring return value of ‘FILE* > freopen(const char*, const char*, FILE*)’, declared with attribute > warn_unused_result > > > i compiled first netgen-svn and then engrid with qmake and make > command. Hello, I have been using engrid to generate prismatic boundary layer on a 2D tet meshes created in Salome-MECA using Netgen algorithm, and I get this error in the middle of the boundary layer generation: This seems to be a bug in enGrid file: seedsimpleprismaticlayer.cpp line:140 What is the source of this error? Thanks in advance, best regards, Tomislav Maric |

Hello everyone, I'm running 32bit Ubuntu 8.10 and I have tried to install the engrid binaries: sudo ./setup The installation was quick and without an error, but starting start_engrid caused this error: tomislav@icarus:enGrid_linux32bit_1.0$ start_engrid /opt/enGrid/engrid: relocation error: /opt/enGrid/libc.so.6: symbol _dl_out_of_memory, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file ld-linux.so.2 with link time reference Can someone please help me with this error? Also, I'm thinking about compiling engrid but I have VTK installed under ParaView and no env. variables similar to VTKLIBDIR and VTKINCDIR already set in my shell (bash). Actually, ParaView is installed as a ThirdParty software for OpenFOAM, so if anyone has some experience with this, I would really appreciate some help. Best regards, Tomislav |

Hello Osman, There appears to have been a misconfiguration with the forum software: It used the local machine as email server which might caused some spam-filters to block the activation email. We have changed this and now it should work properly (it did for a number of test-users we have created). Anyway, your account has been activated manually. Dear all, As Mike already mentioned we do have a phpBB3 based discussion forum now. Unless somebody has strong objections, we would like to use this forum for discussions and help from now on. All existing posts to the mailing list have been transferred to the board "Mailing-list archive" inside the forum. New posts, however, should go to the "General Discussion" board. The mailing list will remain but in the future we would like to use it for announcements rather than discussions and support. If, for whatever reason, you have objections or problems using the forum, feel free to post your problem to the mailing list. The new forum can be found from our website, or directly under http://engits.com/forum Regards, Oliver -- Dr.-Ing. Hello Mark, Here are the *.geo file and the corresponding STEP geometry. Access to Sourceforge seems a bit flaky at times. We have moved to GIT for version control and the repository is now on our own server (here in the office). Mike is currently looking into setting up a PhpBB forum to (maybe) replace the mailing list. If your surface orientation is wrong you can reorient it; but I guess you tried that already. If the orientation is not consistent it means that your surface mesh is not water-tight. Again, we (mainly Mike) are currently working to have surface meshing integrated into enGrid with better control over the mesh density as well. Hi Petri, I had the same issue, but got it working on a relatively new 8.04 installation. See the discussion archive from about a week ago: https://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_name=engrid-users I went through the steps suggested by Mike Taverne and got it running: https://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_name=engrid-users&max_rows=100&style=nested&viewmonth=200903&viewday=3 I didn't specify a password; just pressed return. An alternative approach (horrible, though it seems to me), is to install WINE, and install the windows version. It worked as a stop-gap, for me. BR, Mark. 1) Yes, there will be. Actually, there already is and you can download it here: http://engits.com/ogloth/engrid_1.0_i386.deb It's just that I (or more precisely pbuilder) am not yet completely satisfied with it. Hi, I also had problems compiling enGrid_1.0 using opensuse 10.3 on a 64bit workstation. Since I believe it might be due to the fact that the vtk-qt rpm seems to use Qt3 instead of Qt4, I downloaded the prebuild version http://engits.com/ogloth/enGrid_linux64bit_1.0.tar.gz NOW it's running fine!! Thanks for the nice software. HOWever, I've got one more secondary problem using enGrid, for which I haven't found a solution yet. The problem is a blank output window on the left hand side. When I compare to the tutorial of the enGrid manual, I should see some information there sooner or later. This is not the case. In short my question are: --Do I really need the output-window? If not, how can I get rid of it? --I like information about what's going on. If the output-window can provide that, how can I activate the output? Like I said, so far I'm not missing anything, but I'm curious and would be happy about any help or hints. regards Swen |

I answered my own question. The mesh I created in Gmsh, is ordered through the thickness. The 2-D elements, then, are quads; I selected, 'Create Prismatic boundary layer', but there were no triangles available for meshing. So, I guess my next question is: Are there plans for hexahedral boundary layer generation? Thanks again for the software! BR, Mark. Hi everyone, First, thanks for the great software! I'm enjoying using it! I created an unstructured 2-D mesh in Gmsh, extruded said mesh (ordered) to form first order wedges, 1 element thick, defined Physical surfaces and saved the mesh. I imported the mesh into Engrid, reversed the surface orientation, inspected which boundary codes were to be used for boundary layers, and hit, 'Create prismatic boundary layer'. Engrid returned: Error: There seems to be a bug in enGrid. file: createvolumemesh.cpp line:84 The 'output' window in Engrid shows: creating boundary layer mesh) preparing prismatic layer deleting tetrahedral cells relaxing mesh size : 0% done deleting tetrahedral cells deleting Operation 0x9e1d68 I check the windows version (using wine), it generates the same error. So, should i submit a bug report via the bugtracker available of Sourceforge? (I'm new to this!) Best regards, Mark.
