Ticket modified by camel camel at 2010/11/04 02:27 Tracking System: Feature Requests Category: Addressbook Version: Trunk Status: Open Resolution: None Completed: 0% Priority: 5 - medium Created By: camel camel Assigned to: Nathan Gray Summary: #2625 - INSTANT SYNC -> email notification - if data changed it's only an idea....but i spend a lot of time for the whole syncong stuff... for now i found a good solution via imap + idle for INSTANT EMAIL. next would be - how to make a INSTANT SYNC (because the polling sync method is not the best way, if i check all 1hr and only one change per day ... if data are changed on server(contacts, claendar/infolog), then send an email to USER the idea behind ... so, that the user know, that data are changed on server, and so the user can update/sync the data with his client. so - it is a step to INSTANT SYNC solution or the user can choose what he want .. additional -> i have an INSTANT EMAIL solution on windows mobile (without any exchange server), so the user get this mail, and then this can be made to be automatically sync his device if changes are happen .... what we would need for configuring ... 1.) editing the subject+test of email - maybe via an XML file or something .. configuration part could be the same way as it is to configure after syncing a device -> then there is the sync device -> under settings -> syncml ex: want to know in header: a) which device have changed data on server ex: via web-portal, or via another syncml device id. 2.) who should get the email - free defineable field to send an email to user ... ############ EXAMPLE: 2 CLIENTS PDA = #A DESKTOP = #B now the boss make a new event on his PDA, and sync it from his device to EGW-Server. Now EGW see, that on events something was changed and send an email to his sekretary #B. #B get the email and know, that she must start tzhe sync process on her desktop. now sekretary get a call and give a new event to her boss and insert it in his calendar. She do it in webportal, and now the boss get an email, that something on events was changed. He see this mail, and then he start the sync again to get the new item. so, this was my vision to write this feature request :) #################################### other solutions.. i know, that funambol is doing a lot of things or is trying to make the PUSH methode and that the PDA should act as server and is waiting for new items, but this is almost not possible, because PDA is very limited on network connection and there is no such kind of REAL SERVER software for any PDA, which can handle this without drain the battery in 1hr. BUT - i know, for IMAP (+idle), there are a lot of solutions (like SchedHandler) , which can handle the battery comsune ina good way .. cu camel Comment by camel camel at 2010/11/04 02:27: maybe you haven't understand what this feature means: addressbook -> if an entry changed, new, deleted) -> then send a notification to the user itself. It must be add (like as it is on infolog or calendar) to settings. so the user can be informed, if someone changed anything, like as it is on infolog and calendar Comment by Nathan Gray at 2010/11/03 13:56: I see that this is assigned to me (not sure why, I know almost nothing about notifications), sorry I didn't know about it sooner. It seems like this is done, but only the creator is notified of a change, rather than a definable list. To add the ability to send it to anyone or a list of users is more involved because the addressbook doesn't have the concept of some users being "responsible" for a contact, other than the whole group. Comment by camel camel at 2010/11/03 03:03: any news ? Comment by Jörg Lehrke at 2010/06/18 10:47: I guess it's an easy job for someone who knows the notification sub-system. Comment by camel camel at 2010/06/18 03:40: well, after some discussion, would only made sense to add this for addressbook -> if an entry changed, new, deleted) -> then send a notification. It must be add (like as it is on infolog or calendar) to settings. so, i changed feature request from SYNCML to ADDRESSBOOK Comment by camel camel at 2010/06/08 03:34: so, it would be only neccesary: 1.) for calendar & infolog -> there is an option to send an email if something will be changed ... BUT: it would be fine if the device-name (syncml-device) can also be set in email. 2.) for contacts -> there is no option to send email if there are changes .. linked entries: http://www.egroupware.org/egroupware/index.php?menuaction=tracker.tracker_ui.edit&tr_id=2625&no_popup=1 |
