Sure, I tried all the possible variants, both world-writable and not.
Except world-writable case, my installation checklist is completely
green (ignoring warnings about unnecessary DB extensions not being
loaded).

shripatel, thanks for your help, but it seems that I'll be moving to
eGroupWare alternatives, simply cannot afford such a risky
(disclaimer: in my opinion) piece of software for current project.
