Haskell clearly needs some more IDE support and it is very nice to know that there are people outside the EclipseFP project concerned with that. First of all, I wish you much luck in your endeavours even if you choose not to work with EclipseFP. I am sure Haskell will benefit one way or the other. > - so EclipseFP is the right thing > to start from I believe ;) I have to say that I agree with you. :-) > Since most of you have already some experience in the field it would be > a great support if I can ask you for help from time to time. Just feel at home. Come here any time you want and ask anything you want. People on this group are very friendly and you are very likely to get useful answers from them. You can also use my personal e-mail if you'd like too, but public discussion seems to be more productive for that matter. > The idea is to build an IDE (or to extend EclipseFP) I sincerely hope that you choose to work with us to extend EclipseFP. It will provide you a very good starting point for you to build upon and it already has some momentum inside the Haskell community. Some people already use it and are experimenting with the pre-release versions. This can be a very desirable source of feedback that is likely stronger than starting from scratch. And from our side, we can always use some more help. :-) The main disadvantage for us lazy Haskellers is that Eclipse plugins need to be written in Java and that means we can't use our language of choice. But maybe that will change in the near future, since Leif is working on Cohatoe as a means of integrating Haskell code into Eclipse. About the other points, I was going to write some words but it seems that Leif was faster than me. I will limit myself to adding some comments to his message later, when I manage to fully read it (and if I do :-). Cheers, Thiago Arrais |
