The syntax highlighting looses it completely after some international characters are found in a string. For an example, see file 'search_engines.pm' from the 'AWStats' SF project. Using Europa, JRE6u3 and EPIC 0.5.41.
Does this problem also occur in 0.6.17 for you? I just viewed the file you mentioned and did not see anything strange. Maybe you can provide a more concrete example?
