How did you copy? cp -a ...? Might get sym- and hardlinks wrong. You
have to use tar for these things:
cd /
mount /dev/sdb3 home
(cd homeold; tar cf - .)|(cd home; tar xpf -)
(cd homeold; tar cf - .)|(cd home; tar df -)

After putting it on two partitions, you have to use dump twice to backup
your system. Dump works on partitions.

dump 0af /dev/nst0 /
dump 0af /dev/nst0 /home
