Actually, that's not true.  You can use DRI without Hal on a G400.  I do it at
home right now actually.  Hal is only needed for a G450 or to get dualhead on
a G400.

The problem with the log was that his depth was 24 and his fb depth was 24
also, which is not supported by DRI.

Add the following line to your Screen section of your XF86Config file:

    DefaultFbBpp    32
