By the time Dapper is released, it will hopefully have the recent updates in the Radeon driver. Otherwise lots of Radeon owners will see this nasty regression when they upgrade. Hail the modular Xorg that makes individual driver updates easy. ;-) All that said, IME the Xorg vesa driver is pretty usable in terms of 2D performance even though it has no hardware acceleration at all.
