[Dri-users] Hard Lockups with SMP kernel. What debug options?

I have had on-going issues with hard-lockups when running an SMP kernel
and using dri.

The video card is a radeon 7000/VE

In order to avoid hard lockups I have to run a uniprocessor kernel or
commnent the 'Load "dri"' line in xorg.conf.

I need to compile the SMP kernel with a few debugging options. What
options would be good? What would be the best way to troubleshoot this?
