Hi, Firstly can I thank the developers here for their time and effort in creating DRI for X since it is much appreciated by persons such as myself. I am having a few difficulties with DRI under XFree86 4.0.2 with kernel 2.4.1 which usually result in hard lockups (no oopsing or panics, just total failure) or spontaneous reboots. These are guaranteed to occur after playing quake3 for some time, usually upon exiting quake-gl and upon starting things like halflife under WINE. I'm not a hardcore gamer (honest) however even more "simple" things (like gears) have been known to cause me to hard reset. Having had these problems, I decided yesterday to download the X CVS and build it for myself (since the r128 kernelspace stuff has changed since 20001215 and might play nicely with my kit now - you never know). The build was successful, the kernel module inserted okay, I started X and... no GL. Nothing GL related was working at all and all I got were one line error messages from the r128 driver (something concerning buffers and an exit code of -14) when running GL apps. I know I'm not being very helpful with error messages here but really, I don't have many, I've switched back to my previous X and I have decided it best to ask fokes here what sorts of logs you would like/things I should try before playing with it again. At the moment I cannot use GL apps because they will bring down this machine after a few minutes use. I am running a 1.0GHz Athlon (VIA chipset) with an All in Wonder 128 (16MB RAM) board and 128MB system RAM. This is running Debian unstable and the latest versions of software from apt (give or take a day or so perhaps). Once again, I don't really have much in the way of helpful logs (tracing execution of stuff like gears doesn't seem to provide me with much useful information, and hard lockups inevitably do not have logs...) and for this I am sorry, I am mailing this list in the hope for suggestions of the kinds of information you want from me and also half in the hope that someone will simply say "yesterdays CVS was broken" :) It would be really great if I could start using OpenGL again sometime soon safe in the knowledge that it won't kill perihelion but of course this isn't simple stuff happening here (and I'm not a graphics developer) so it's understandable that there are problems of course. I might decide soon to throw this card on the grounds that almost any other would probably be more successful here :P --jcm |
