I'm trying to play Master of Orion. On the "Choose race" screen (and the follwing screens), mouse cursor keeps jumping into the position it first appeared in after several seconds. I've noted this behaviour in other games too.
If you are running linux, check if there is some utility related to mouse running in the background (for example, "unclutter" or something similar). I have seen the same symptoms you did, and after disabling the utility everything is back to normal.
