Then I look thru the logfiles, most mails are handled around more or
less than one second, and sid-milter is far from the only milter that
"checks" the incoming mails.

This was of course before this CPU hogging started...
Sorry but I killed it (the CPU hog), because it didn't get better even
though I took Sendmail of duty for some time (enough for the
filter-timeouts) and there was no mails in the queue either.

However, I got backtrace from one of the cores. I hope the will show the
problem more clearly.=20
