A lot of hassle getting 1.2.6.i486 to install on USB and boot: Lilo/Cramfs: cp: cannot stat `/boot/boot.b': No such file or directory Install failed! Grub/Cramfs: ./install-on-usb: line 206: ./tmp-install2usb/iso-mnt/sbin/grub: cannot execute binary file grep: grub-tmp-map: No such file or directory ./install-on-usb: line 213: ./tmp-install2usb/iso-mnt/sbin/grub: cannot execute binary file Syslinux/Cramfs: copying source file bootcd.iso to device mounted on ./tmp-install2usb/disk-mnt/bootcd.iso cp: failed to preserve ownership for `./tmp-install2usb/disk-mnt/bootcd.iso': Operation not permitted Install failed! I discovered that the Syslinux error was because I'd unpacked the tarball as user rather than root. Since the partion type has to be FAT using the cp -p option seems doomed to fail! Also I found the config update dialog a bit unclear. Does an 'X' mean it's going to keep my original file or replace it. Then I found it's not possible to exit or return to the beginning (to re-read the text). Anyway it all seems to be working OK with Syslinux now. One thing - I can't get syslog-ng to start at boot time. Same problem was on 1.2.4. Of course there's no error messages but there is a pid file so it did attempt to start. It starts OK if I just run init file manually. Any suggestions what might be wrong? I keep /var/log on a CF hard disk - I thought maybe it didn't exist when syslog-ng started but I can't see why that would be the case. Dick |
