Use Wine (Wine Is Not an Emulator) to run Windows applications on Darwin and Mac OS X.
Project Administrators:
Darwine is the original effort to port Wine to Macs Running OSX and consisted of 2 major efforts:
1. ''PowerPC'' Macs - attempted to integrate QEMU into Wine for x86 CPU emulation. This is NO LONGER ACTIVELY DEVELOPED. The QEMU user mode is now specifically documented for running stock Wine on non-Intel x86 chipsets.
2. ''Intel x86'' - Applied patches to run Wine on Mac OS X computers with Intel x86 compatible processors.
Darwine has merged Wine specific patches back into the WineHQ codebase. The Darwine project compiles and bundles this code into an OS X specific distribution package. Some Mac specific code is added to provide system integration.
See the WineHQ Application Database to see how well specific Windows programs run with Wine. Also lets you vote on programs (to influence patch priority). Make sure you report your success with individual programs here.
In all instances make careful note of the exact method used to run a Windows program and the commands used. These will need to be correctly reported to get help fixing the issue.
Try running wine directly from Terminal (Applications | Utilities | Terminal).
Example:
wine "c:/windows/notepad.exe" "c:/windows/notepad.exe"
or
/Applications/Wine.app/Contents/resources/bin/wine winecfg
This is the most direct way to run Wine and should be used to report any bugs to WineHQ Bugzilla. If a program will not run this way the issue should be with the WineHQ code and should be reported to them. Continue troubleshooting on their webpage.
Click directly on the EXE, BAT, or COM file.
If the method in #1 worked and this does not then the issue may be with the Java code that translates OS X system files or Wine.app's plist file. Report exact details of the issue in Darwine Discussions.
Open Wine.app and use "Start | Run" menu
Again, if the method in #1 worked and this does not then the issue may be with the Java code that translates OS X system files. Report exact details of the issue in Darwine Discussions.
Since core Darwine codebase has moved back into the main Wine branch, most bugs should be reported at WineHQ.
File bugs and other issues with running applications at WineHQ Bugzilla. This will require running the program from the Terminal to see Wine errors.
Darwine bug reports should be limited to installation of Wine or issues with any GUI elements prior to opening Windows programs with Wine. Search for and solicit help in the Darwine Discussion Forumand open a Darwine Ticket as directed.
