Swan (wdswan) >Assigned to: Hans-Bernhard Broeker (broeker) Summary: Had to use dos2unix on several files to build Initial Comment: I'm using cygwin on a Windows XP box. After downloading the cscope-15.6.tar.tar and renaming it to cscope-15.6.tar.gz (don't know why I had to do that!) and unzipping it with WinZip, I tried to use the configure process and kept getting errors. Finally I realized that some of the crucial files were in DOS format and bash was not liking the extra carriage return on each line, instead of just a newline. To get the build to work, I had to use dos2unix on these files: configure config.sub config.guess depcomp I then was able to get the make to work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Hans-Bernhard Broeker (broeker) Date: 2007-04-05 00:15 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=27517 Originator: NO I'm quite sure this has nothing to do with our tar file, and everything with WinZip. It converted your file's text format to the wrong one. The release tarball works just fine using Cygwin's own, real "tar" program. > After downloading the cscope-15.6.tar.tar and renaming it to cscope-15.6.tar.gz (don't > know why I had to do that!) Neither do I --- because I have to do nothing of the sort. I would suspect whatever you're using for a web browser to be interfering with the download there. Or possibly it's Winzip again, having usurped the *.gz extension for itself so thoroughly that it unpacks such files in passing whether you ever wanted that or not. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Warren D. Swan (wdswan) Date: 2007-04-05 00:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=779669 Originator: YES Found it! I just happened to go into my WinZip settings and found an obscure setting called "TAR file smart CR/LF conversion" which was checked ON by default. I have now checked it off! Perhaps this little tidbit can be passed on for future generations. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=104664&aid=1694612&group_id=4664 |
