I don't think this is the cause, as I have got a similar setup 
(desktop P4 in Hyperthreading mode, two CPUs showing up in XP) and 
everything works fine without any of the tweaking Ewan mentioned. (it 
sill may be worth to try that out)I'd also try disabling some of the 
colinux features, for example networking.
