Category: None Group: v0.7.x (release) Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Xuefer (xuefer) Assigned to: Henry N. (henryn) Summary: kernel: inotify is needed by gentoo Initial Comment: the kernel in 0.7.1 release is not compiled with inotify, which is required by gentoo udev startup scripts it would be nice if u enable it before release, so us, the users would not have to recompile it thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Henry N. (henryn) Date: 2007-02-20 22:16 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=579204 Originator: NO You should install one of the newer coLinux: http://www.henrynestler.com/colinux/testing/devel-0.8.0/20061003/ (Kernel 2.6.17) http://www.henrynestler.com/colinux/autobuild/devel-20070218/ (latest build, Kernel 2.6.17) All kernels 2.6.13 and newer are with CONFIG_INOTIFY=y compiled. Using the windows open/find directory notification scheme or NTFS journal reads could provide that information, but it would be quite expensive to pass all changes across to linux (though the increased cacheability might offset that) and the two schemes don't line up very well, there'd be a significant amount of work to translate inotify requests into Win32-compatible change notification subscriptions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Henry N.
