This month, Cocoa-heads Lake Forest will be talking about pushing graphics to the screen in Cocoa. We will be digging more deeply into NavComCocoa, the eye candy app introduced last month. We will discuss what you get out of the toolkit with minimal effort, and when you might want to do something at the lower Core Graphics layer. (Any OpenGL programmers are encouraged to implement a RoundLEDView.) We will also talk about Gelphman's Programming with Quartz book, as well as the new Cocoa Drawing Guide. As always, the code will be up on the sourceforge subversion server not long after the meeting. Free stuff? Yep. JetBrains has given us a second license to IDEA, their Java IDE, to give away as a door prize. This will be our lead- in to a discussion about refactoring tools. Bring coding questions, your favorite bugs, and any proposed future discussion topics. Meet up with us on Tuesday June 13, 2006 07:00 PM at Deidrich's Coffee, 22621 Lake Forest Dr, Lake Forest 92630. This month, Cocoa-heads Lake Forest will be talking about Shark. I will bring up the standard and the system trace view to look at the performance of a bit of graphical eye candy. We will also discuss various ways to draw circles, images, and the like to the screen at great speed. (Anyone willing to talk about OpenGL or CGLayer in this context might want to pipe up.) If there is interest, we will devote a whole meeting to Gelphman's book, the new Cocoa drawing guide, and other graphics topics. Free stuff? Yep. JetBrains has given us a license to IDEA, their Java IDE, to give away. This will be our lead-in to a discussion about refactoring tools. Meet up with us on Tuesday May 09, 2006 07:00 PM at Deidrich's Coffee, 22621 Lake Forest Dr, Lake Forest 92630. Scott |

CocoaHeads, David Gelphman, co-author of Programming in Quartz (David Gelphman, Bunny Laden) noticed the mention on the CocoaHeads page about his book. He send me an email and he's ready to join us next time on April 13 and talk about his book/Quartz programming. He's wondering where we're at with the subject: Begin forwarded message: > From: David Gelphman > > I've been thinking about what to put together and realized it would > be helpful to have a better idea about what knowledge the audience > will have, particularly about Quartz and Cocoa graphics. Any > thoughts you have are helpful so that I aim close to what will be > useful for the audience. Thought I'd forward this on to you guys, the audience, to give me some feedback. If you received 2 copies of this message you are on both the coc...@li... and the Official CocoaHeads Meeting Reminder list (in my Address Book). Thank you Steve |

Hello, all. After a quick show of hands, and one presumes some heady sighs of relief, the Cocoa-Heads Lake Forest meeting has been MOVED to Thursday, 2/16 from Valentine's Day. We will still meet at Deidrich's Coffee, 22621 Lake Forest Dr, Lake Forest, 92630, at 7pm. Sorry about the confusion. The Cocoa-Heads web site at cocoa-heads.org has been updated accordingly, with directions, and an inspirational paragraph describing the meeting. We welcome anyone with an interest in Mac programming. No previous experience is needed to get something out of the meetings, though a willingness to learn Cocoa and Objective C is probably a help. Our current project is a Cocoa/ObjC logic puzzle, and this meeting is focussed on just how the data will be formed, and how we intend to draw it. See you all there! Scott |

Greetings, I figured I'd let folks know that the next CocoaHeads is coming up. This month we'd like to welcome Colorado Springs, CO to the CocoaHeads family. They will be meeting Thursday January 12th at the Panera Bread 7344 North Academy Blvd, 7-9 pm. A number of chapters are in hiatus this month (the LA-area chapters, and Pittsburgh) because of Macworld. For folks who are going to Macworld, the Silicon Valley chapter will be meeting at the San Francisco Apple Store, also on Thursday January 12th. No need to make the haul down to Cupertino this month. Dan and Terrence from Karelia will demo Sandvox and speak on the technology that goes into it. MarkD will be there also, along with other CocoaHeads chapter organizers who are in town. The other regular meetings are going on as planned (but you may want to check with the chapter organizer just in case): * Portland OR: Tuesday January 10 (tomorrow - sorry for the late notice. mea culpa), 7-9 pm * Boston, MA: Thursday January 12, 7-9 pm * Saint Louis, MO: Thursday January 12, 7-9 pm * Silicon Valley, CA: Thursday January 12, 7-9 pm * Colorado Springs, CO: Thursday January 12, 7-9 pm And these are on hiatus due to Macworld: * Los Angeles, CA * Orange County, CA * Pittsburgh, PA And most likely New York, NY will be meeting Thursday the 19th, but I need to double-check that date. More info (such as meeting locations) can be found at <http:// cocoaheads.org> Cheers, ++Mark Dalrymple, ma...@bo... http://borkware.com P.S. Cleveland, OH will be joining the CocoaHeads family next month. If you're interested in meeting, drop ScottK (sc...@co...) a line. |

Greetings, It's that time again - time for CocoaHeads, a Mac Programmer's group. The big news this month is that CocoaHeads and Chicago's CAWUG (Cocoa and Web Object's User's Group) are joining forces. The next meeting in Chicago will be Tuesday December 6th, at the Apple Store on Michigan avenue. Bob Frank will be talking about Screen Savers and OpenGL. And because December is usually a pretty nutzoid month, there are some changes to our usual schedule: Pittsburgh is taking the month off - there's been flooding in our usual meeting spot. Los Angeles (Santa Monica) is also taking the month off - several members are gearing up for MacWorld next month. Orange County CA is meeting this month. New York City will be meeting on a monday later this month (TBA) The rest of the chapters should be meeting per their usual meeting date. If there's any questions, please drop a line to the chapter organizer. Second Thursdays (December 8): * Silicon Valley, CA at Apple's Singapore Conference Room at 1 Infinite Loop * Boston, MA, on the M.I.T. campus in building E51 (Tang Center) room 145 * Saint Louis, MO, at "The Loop" in University City. Work continues on Desktop Fiend. Second Tuesdays (December 13): * Orange County, CA at Diedrich Coffe, Lake Forest. The topic is "A hands-on logic puzzle" * Portland, OR at Wacom's Vancouver HQ For details, email links to chapter organizers, maps, and all that good stuff, please visit http://cocoaheads.org/ Cheers, ++Mark Dalrymple, ma...@bo... http://borkware.com |

Greetings, It's time again for CocoaHeads, a Mac Programmer's group with chapters in Boston and Pittsburgh. We meet the second thursday of the month, so this time around it will be on July 14. The Boston group will be heading out to dinner at Mary Chung's, a chinese restaurant at 464 Massachusetts Ave, close to the intersection with Main Street. We're meeting at 7-9pm - people should ask for a table under the name of Simon or Cocoaheads. If you would like to RSVP, please drop Simon Olsberg an email at si...@co.... The Pittsburgh group will be meeting at the usual spot on the CMU Campus, from 7-9pm. This time we'll be talking about XML and/or CoreData. More information can be found at <http://cocoaheads.org>.
