interesting - this is not what I observe on a win2k professional here at
work. 

I changed install.lisp to use the registry to get the location of the
common desktop.

(dir-key-single-value :win32 "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\Shell Folders" "Common Desktop")

should return your directory.
