Hi all, this is to announce Christine's Facebook Group. I have created this groups to create a community around this player, with this group all developers can communicate directly to the users and know what the users want to see in future versions. I hope that you, the guys that where involved in Christine development support this group and help this player to be better and better every day. At the end the software is for everyone and helping this group will help you too. Thank you for your time, see ya in Christine's Facebook Group! Hi fellas, I was thinking about the next version manager for Christine, as I said, Sf.net offers several of them, not just svn. I think the best for us this time is bazaar, just because with bazaar I can think we can keep in touch sf.net code and launchapd's bazaar. This because Launchpad offers a way to keep translations updated. Let me know if you have some docs to keep in sync sf.net bazaar and launchpad's. Or if you want to help us with this. -- <--Linux... Christine is a small and functional media player written in Python using PyGtk as GUI toolkit and Gstreamer as backend. It supports all the media files that your gstreamer installation can support, being MP3, OGG, AVI, MPG. It saves the URIs and Meta tags in a database and let you browse them quickly. Christine also provides early support for Radio Stations and have its own DBus interface which let you control christine with your media keyboard buttons as they are configured on GNOME. The early access to Plugins will let you tweet the music you are listening to, put it on your pidgin status and use notifications while you change your current song. === What's new === This is a bug fix release then, there is nothing new. === Fixes === * Bugfix: Import Folder using "Include Subfolder" is not working * BUgfix: Win32 Build put a link on "start" in Programs Menu, then Christine is starting on Windows start up. === Download === Download Sources * http://sourceforge.net/projects/christine/files/christine/0.6.1/christine-0.6.1.tar.bz2 * http://sourceforge.net/projects/christine/files/christine/0.6.1/christine-0.6.1.tar.gz * http://sourceforge.net/projects/christine/files/christine/0.6.1/christine-0.6.1.tar.zip Binary Packages * Ubuntu: https://launchpad.net/~markuz/+archive/ppa * Windows http://sourceforge.net/projects/christine/files/christine/0.6.1/Christine-0.6.1.exe -- <--Linux... I think that christine needs to change the version manager, we are currently using subversion which at least for me is quite enough but I don't know if it is the right version manager. I believe that using git or bazaar, will help the project to reach potential developers, but I don't really know what version manager to use. I had used bazaar and git a couple of times, but really don't know which one is the best. If any of you have any opinion please help me to choose. Thank you in advice. -- <--Linux... This night I have been working on the Win32 build of christine. It seems to be working fine. This version is just a test, for those that wanted to use christine on Microsoft Windows. Altough that I have made some tests on a clean Windows XP installation cannot guarantee that the Win32 will work on your computer. Anyway, if you are brave enough, download the win32 binary and report any bug you found on it. If you want to compile it, you will need this: * Python 2.6 (I built Christine with it, but python >= 2.5 should work too) * Gstreamer Winbuild (http://www.gstreamer-winbuild.ylatuya.es/doku.php) * Microsoft Visual C++ * py2exe (http://py2exe.org/) The build script is in win32resources/christine_setup.py, just copy it to the source root and run python christine_setup.py -q py2exe to build it. You can download the win32 binary from here: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/christine/christine/0.6.0-pre1/Christine-0.06.00-pre1.exe Read more: http://islascruz.org/html/#ixzz0XcIBNIMF Under Creative Commons License: Attribution Non-Commercial No Derivatives -- <--Linux... Hi!! The man who writes in vim salutes you!. I know that you are subscribed to this list because you are interested in christine development. As many of you know, My daughter just born and I haven't all the time I use to have, and I didn't give christine all the time I use to do. Well, last days I have been working on christine, and this are the things I have been working on: * Christine Plugins as packages in libchristine/Plugins * Use the traductions from rosseta ( I have to update the roseta template for the newest version). * I fix a compilation issue I had on Ubuntu, and I require your help here, can you try to compile christine on your system?. * I setup the Sources List and the Queue list in a much easier way to see/read, hiding one or the other as you require. I hope you have the time to test this and help me to release christine 0.4 within the next two weeks. Cheers! -- <--Linux... Yes, I'm announcing that we are not going to use SourceForge.net Tracker system for Bugs, patches and Feature request. As far as we are using the Trac system, the defects and feature requests have to be submited on the Ticket system that the Trac system have. Hi fellas. If you are following christine commits then you notice that I have been working a bit on dbus, first because I want co control christine with my keyboard buttons (previous, next, play, stop). I also create some functions to allow a small program use this functions (you can see all this in libchristine/christine_dbus/ package). Now, I feel the need to create dbus functions for everything.. but it's not possible, so, please, give me a clue about what you want to see in the dbus package. I'm about to create several signals, but again, I need your help to create a good enough signal stack. Thanks for your time and your suggestions!. -- <--Linux... Yes, I have marked this as part of the goals of christine. It seems that chrsitine is not so fat free when we talk about importing files. The current approach in christine 0.2 is getting the metatags while the library is being filled. I have tried to optimize this but it's true that it takes still some time to import a very big folder (I have tried with a folder with more thatn 15000 items and took about 30 minutes). My solution is to import the files but don't try to get the metatags in this step, but fetch them while the user plays them. This is actually done by christine, but, the new approach also includes the items in the list being visible. Then the import should be faster and the user should not notice this. I'm working on this, and the first attemps are in the code in trunk (as this is not part of christine 0.2) please my dear friends check it, any suggestions are more than welcome :-D Cheers ! -- <--Linux... Well, this is to let you know that I have started the development of christine 0.3 and I wish you could help me to create a more powerfull and slim media player for the Unix systems. I believe this are the goals for Christine 0.3: * Import files in a faster way*. * Better support for plugins. * Support for DBus as a plugin. * This will enable a whole world with christine and other applications. * Code Optimization. * Your idea is here!!! Yes, another ideas are more than welcome, I hope we can release this in the next three months. * I'll talk about this in a new thread ;-) -- <--Linux... As you should know, I have published the 0.2 aplha packages of christine media player. Now, I have created the 0.2 branch for this release, this is where bugfixes for this version should be. Now, the trunk code is for 0.3. I'm creating a page in the wiki[1] where we can propose features for the 0.3 and then set up the goals. Contribute! And I think (not completly sure) that we could avoid the problem of letting everybody register event triggers with a correct event based dbus implementation. I think those to features of dbus are killers :) Max -- $ echo "scale=1000000; 4*a(1)" | bc -l |

Using DBus could be great... I need to see one or more applications of dbus in christine (ideas). If it is a good enought feature we should include it on christine 0.3 :-) On Mon, 2008-11-17 at 17:09 -0600, GaRaGeD Style wrote: > I would really love to see dbus support. I would really love to see dbus support. My understanding about the gtk events is not totally right, but I think it's not what an actual event based plugin system needs, please correct me if I'm wrong. Great work Marco, it just get better and better :) Max -- $ echo "scale=1000000; 4*a(1)" | bc -l |

Hi, long time since the las christine release. I think its being time to make a new release, this time the 0.2 release.. what's new in this release? * New treemodel that works faster than normal ListStore. * Early plugins interface. * We remove gnome-python dependency, we use our own configuration manager. * We use SQLite 3 to save the data. * Christine is faster (loading, importing files and searching) * The notify Icon (statusIcon) and the PyNotify stuff is now a plugin easier to enable/disable. Related to the features above, there are more technical changes like the new Base class for the lists (Main library and queue), The new Events module, and major changes in code, that why we can't call this as a 0.1.x release. Talking about versions we should use the Apache version naming, Major.Minor.Patch. To developers, packagers and bleeding edge users, please test christine and give us feedback to make this the best christine release! Cheers -- <--Linux... Those subscribed to the christine commits mailing list maybe already knows that the StatusIcon (TryIcon) and Pynotify stuff are now part of the christine Plugins, leaving libchristine/Christine.py module. This can't be done without the Plugins module, and the christineEvents class which I have to modify a bit because the approach was not enought for me. Let me explain my point about why I do modify christineEvents. christineEvents class is using an aproach similar to christineConf class where you set a function with arguments to be executed every time an event happends, but what if you need that event to send arguments to the funcion? Whell I have setup two functions, one, you register your functions as an event watcher on christineEvents using addWatcher. Then, you can "emit" and event using the christineEvents emit method passing any arguments you want. This arguments will pass to the watchers when they are executed. This is just an approximation to the right solution and is by far not perfect because: * There is no way to control the arguments sent to the watchers and many may fail because wron number or type of arguments * Anyone can emit any signal! even if the module that emits is doesn't suppose to emit the event. * There is no encapsulation. You should be able to connect to signals per object instead the global basis. I think christineEvents is nice and will help us a lot, but think that in the future will have to use gobject based objects. I'd like to hear what you think. If you can, please check the code and point help me to make christine even better :-) -- <--Linux...
