There are tons of apps which are very easy to install from a disk image, without using an installer. Just put a folder in the disk image with all the files/subdirectories and app inside. The user simply have to click-drag the folder on his/here desktop (or anywhere else). I'm using this installation process all the time. Most sharewares/freewares are installed this way. And you can even paste a simple background picture in the .img disk's window to say what the user needs to do. This is very common on OS X. To install back the personnal collection of extras/textures/models/ files, it is a trivial process. The installation is so simple, actually, I'm wondering why you guys don't get it ! I'm doing it myself with my backups, on CDs, DVDs, disk images, etc. I'm bringing my own Celestia to my work place, using very simple and efficient techniques. The installation process was trully TRIVIAL ! Now, it isn't anymore, after your changes to the directories structure. You guys (Chris and Da Woon) should have discussed this with the users, BEFORE making the changes to SVN. Now, it's a real mess. -Martin. |
