Summary: dbupgrade on incompatible hardware

Initial Comment:
We need to be able to do a dbupgrade of a .g file on a machine which does not have the same "endian" orientation as the one used to create the .g file.  In particular, there are a large number of big-endian .g files sprinkled around that will need to be upgraded when they are found.  We generally only have intel little-endian machines available these days.

Sean, in the meantime how about turning this on with the caveat that you
don't guarantee knowing the endian status of the  file, but have an option
to choose (guess) one or the other.  If one choice is not successful, the
other should be, no?

I finally finished all of the necessary run-time detections that were
needed to make that happen a few months ago.  It shouldn't be too
complicated to hook in some options to dbupgrade with that all in place --
the only trick will be (reliably) detecting that a file is of a different
endian format (maybe test a few matrices, then tend to be wildly invalid).
