Category: Modeling Group: release 7.12 >Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Gijs van Dam (gpvandam) Assigned to: Sean Morrison (brlcad) Summary: NURBS, B-Spline, NMG Initial Comment: Hi, I'm very new at using BRL CAD. I did read the manual, but couldn't find any information about how to use more complex geometry like B-SPLINE, NURBS and NMG. It seems there is nothing in the manual about it and I couldn't find any obvious menu-item in MGED. Can anyone give me a hint on this? Does anyone know where I can find more documentation? Thanx. That is something I expect may get finished up in either late 2009 or 2010 at the latest. That's just a rough guess giving current developer resources and other competing priorities unless more developers show up to work on NURBS. Our first priority is ray-tracing, then conversion support, then visualization/tessellation support, then editing support. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Sean Morrison (brlcad) Date: 2008-12-22 14:59 Message: Gijs, There's limited documentation on using those more complex geometry types for a couple of reasons. The editing facilities and user interface for manipulating those three in particular are very basic. It's not something you're going to want to do (as a user) on a day-to-day basis without someone improving the editing tools some more. Most of their provided implementation is for import/export in support of other CAD packages. Depending on what you're trying to do, there is almost always an alternative way of editing that is preferred over directly editing nurbs/nmg/bots using other implicit primitives. Probably not the answer you were looking for, but hopefully explains things nonetheless. Cheers!
