They work as long as it concerns MSVC compiler itself; but Resource Compiler and commands like del/move/copy/etc don't understand forward slashes; besides forward slashes are used for specifying command-line options (e.g cl /TP /... /... and RC /... /...). I understand that this patch looks somewhat ugly (I don't care about Windows much anyways) but the man who did it says it is absolutely required :) Maybe we can develop some SED scripts that somehow avoid this limitation, or somehow we can patch Makefile.in *before* autoconf replaces CFLAGS & friends; at this point in time Makefile.in doesn't contain useful forward slashes.
