Kern, Thanks so much for your help. I tried the end of medium switch, but it didn't help. I did however, learn about turning on debug output for btape, and I searched the internet and found out that freebsd uses different blocksizes than linux. I could find a solution, but I did fins a discussion about the difficulty using tapes written on a linux system on freebsd due to the blocksize issue. Unfortunatley I'm way over my head with setting the blocksizes. I tried using mt to set them on the tape drive, then using the: Maximum block size Minimum block size but it didn't help at all. Here's what I see with debugging turned on: btape -d99 /dev/nrsa0 Tape block granularity is 1024 bytes. btape: lex.c:123 Open config file: bacula-sd.conf btape: lex.c:143 Return lex=809e018 btape: stored_conf.c:409 Inserting device res: FileStorage btape: lex.c:79 Close lex file: bacula-sd.conf btape: lex.c:85 Close cfg file bacula-sd.conf btape: lex.c:123 Open config file: bacula-sd.conf btape: lex.c:143 Return lex=809e018 dump_resource type=3001 Director: name=zoom2-dir dump_resource type=3002 Storage: name=zoom2-sd SDaddr=(null) SDport=9103 SDDport=0 dump_resource type=3003 Device: name=WangDATModel3400DX MediaType=DDS-3 Device=/dev/nrsa0 rew_wait=300 min_bs=0 max_bs=0 max_jobs=0 max_files=0 max_size=0 max_file_size=0 capacity=0 CAP_EOF CAP_BSR CAP_BSF CAP_FSR CAP_FSF CAP_EOM CAP_REM CAP_AUTOMOUNT CAP_ALWAYSOPEN dump_resource type=3003 Device: name=FileStorage MediaType=File Device=/usr/backups rew_wait=300 min_bs=0 max_bs=0 max_jobs=0 max_files=0 max_size=0 max_file_size=0 capacity=0 CAP_EOF CAP_BSR CAP_BSF CAP_FSR CAP_FSF CAP_EOM CAP_RACCESS CAP_AUTOMOUNT dump_resource type=3004 Messages: name=Standard btape: lex.c:79 Close lex file: bacula-sd.conf btape: lex.c:85 Close cfg file bacula-sd.conf btape: butil.c:145 Using device: /dev/nrsa0 for writing. btape: dev.c:187 init_dev: tape=1 dev_name=/dev/nrsa0 btape: dev.c:226 open_dev: tape=1 dev_name=/dev/nrsa0 vol= btape: dev.c:230 open_dev: device is tape btape: dev.c:256 open_dev: tape 5 opened btape: butil.c:101 Device opened for read. btape: block.c:125 Returning new block=809b428 btape: block.c:125 Returning new block=809b428 *test btape: btape.c:545 Append files test.
