A synthetic full backup is a full backup made without connecting to the=20 server. It is created using the allready made backups. =46or instance, say that last sunday we made a full backup. Then all week long, we created incremental backups, in order to do them fas= t. Now comes sunday again, and we need another full. The synthetic backup makes it possible to do instead an incremental backup= =20 (during the night for instance), and then create a synthetic backup during= =20 the day, by using the full and incrementals from the week. The synthetic=20 backup will be exactly like a full made sunday night on the tape, but the=20 production interruption on the server will be minimal, as the production=20 server will only have to send incrementals. The benefit is that=20 =2D the production server just does an incremental =2D the synthetic backup on tape is just as a single full backup, and can b= e=20 restored very fast.
