That's rather interesting. I have never tried backing up a linux box via ssh/rsync, only windows boxes. I will setup backuppc to backup a linux box via ssh/rsync and see if that works. If it does, then I guess that means that there's something wrong with cygwin part of things. Have you tried backing up your w2k server with ssh/rsync like the rest of your machines you are backing up?
