Hello, first I just want to say that BackupPC is a really great program! = I'm not using it in a production environment or anything yet, but I'm = very close to, and I just want to make sure I'm going the right way = about things. I plan to backup a whole lot of windows 2k servers with = some running exchange. I just want to hear what your suggestions are on = how to do an actual restore on a 2k machine. This is what I have in mind = (all these backups will be done over the net): First, the backup. Customer has a 2k server, so we go onsite and do a = ghost of their drive. Do a direct copy of all those files to the backup = (backuppc) server. Store the ghosted drive away for future restores. = Then every night, do incremental backups to the backup server via rsync. = This also backs up the system state including the exchange store. Restore: Ok this is what I have in mind, but might not be the best way = of doing it. Lets say a customer's server completely stuffs up. So, we = get the ghosted drive, then start the restore process: Restore the = system state then connect to the web interface of backuppc and do a = restore on all files using rsync, overwriting all the existing files(?). = Is this the best way of going about it do you think? |
