I started it manually, after su'ing to > the backuppc user. This is a mystery. What is in the $DataDir/pc/$host directory? Is there a file XferLOG? I can't think of a good reason the file can't be created/opened. Unless of course there is an XferLOG there already and it is owned by another user (eg: root), but that shouldn't be the case after you did the chown... After lines 294-295 of bin/BackupPC_dump: my $XferLOG = BackupPC::FileZIO->open("$Dir/XferLOG$fileExt", 1, $Conf{CompressLevel}); please add something like: if ( !defined($XferLOG) ) { print(LOG $bpc->timeStamp, "Can't open $Dir/XferLOG$fileExt: $!\n"); } else { print(LOG $bpc->timeStamp, "Opened $Dir/XferLOG$fileExt ok\n"); } What gets printed to the log file when you run it?
