Hi, can any one help me with this little problem? I have a system running Win XP SP2 Home edition and I am backing up using the rsync package from BackupPC. My problem is that rsync is using up all available processor cycles. This wouldn't be a problem if the backup completed in a few hours but it takes nearly 3 days to complete. During this time the machine is un useable due to rsync taking up all the CPU time. I have read the archives and found this problem has been experienced by at least one other person but I could not find any referance to a solution. I have tried running with and without nontsec in the CYGWIN environment variable and that produces no differance. I have tried changing the priority of rsync but nothing changes. I have noted that rsync does not hog the processor when it collecting file names but as soon as it starts sending across the network it hogs 99% of the processor. What can be done to fix this? I can not use smb to do this backup as XP Home edition does not seem to allow anyone but guest to connect to a smb share and guest can not read the files. Any sugestions greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dave West |
