Hi, all. I've been unable to use the alsa-utils applications since 0.9.0beta5 (0.9.0beta4 worked without problems). The driver, library and utils all compile fine, but attempting to run them produces, eg.: ---- [oliver]$ alsamixer ALSA lib control.c:534:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL default alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory [oliver]$ ---- or (running as root, in case that's the problem): ---- ~# alsamixer -c 0 ALSA lib control.c:534:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hw:0 alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for hw:0: No such file or directory ~# ---- There don't seem to be any messages about this, so I'm pretty sure it's my configuration, but I don't really know where to look. OSS emulation works exactly as it should, but none of the ALSA-native stuff will. Could this be a file left lying around from an older installation of ALSA? snddevices has been run since alsa-driver was rebuilt, and modules snd-card-sb16, snd-pcm-oss, snd-mixer-oss and snd-seq-oss are modprobed. /proc/asound/sndstat gives: ---- Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v0.9.0beta7 emulation code) Kernel: Linux 2.2.19-hap-3 #1 SMP Mon Aug 20 01:27:40 BST 2001 i686 Config options: 0 Installed drivers: Type 10: ALSA emulation Card config: Sound Blaster 16 at 0x220, irq 5, dma 1&5 Audio devices: 0: DSP v4.13 (DUPLEX) Synth devices: 0: OPL3 FM Midi devices: 0: MPU-401 (UART) Timers: 7: system timer Mixers: 0: mixer00 ---- Thanks for any help anyone can offer. PS. Please CC: me as well as the list, if possible; I'm not subscribed, but I'll try to regularly check the archive. -- Oliver Atkins mailto:ol...@th... icbm:51.38.49N-0.42.22W-295ASL |
