Hi, I have ASUS M4A78T-E mobo, quadcore Phenom running Kubuntu 2.6.28-11-generic using onboard sound VIA VT1708S with Logitech Receiver and digital speakers with optical connection. I am finding that the digital IEC958 crashes intermittently usually after rebooting. I cannot say what seems to trigger it. The drivers do not install easily after a crash and I find I have to try many many times to recompile alsa lib and driver. Last crash I installed the snapshot of alsa lib and drivers alsa-driver-1.0.21.23.g1f3eb.228.g96628 alsa-lib-1.0.21a.8.g0110d and there was no sound at all! I then reinstalled the last alsa lib and drivers that worked (see alsa-info attached). The drivers compiled but when I played back HDTV on alsa passthrough in Kaffeine all I got was crackle. I then recompiled a couple more times and eventually got it back. I always run kaffeine in alsa passthrough for digital TV and dvds. Do you think this is an issue with alsa sda-hda-intel drivers and my soundcard or Kubuntu or Kaffeine? How do I diagnose and cure this so it does not keep happening? Thanks |
