ok, I will do some test and I'll report to you the results....
Watching the changelogs, I see that cmi8738 driver is not modified on 
every version.. Do you know what versions introduced large modifications 
on it? So I can restrict the range of tests.....

In addition, what are the parameters that I can set? I've found confused 
description of them (like number of channels, pcm format etc.)....
