That works great for analog output, but not for sp/dif, that still only sees 2 channels. AFAIK the only way to get more than 2.0 channels through a sp/dif link is by wrapping them up in a (lossy) AC3 encoded stream. It's just not very setisfactory to have a 5.1 capable audio device that only delivers 2.0 channels to the amp unless your source data is already properly encoded. So I am looking for a way to take all the channels - regardless of whether they actually contain data or only silence - that the card supports (5.1 that is) and wrap them in an AC3 stream in real time to send that out via optical sp/dif to my amp.
