I'm not sure to what "48 kHz digital" you refer, but generally if you use the plughw layer in ALSA you can convert between any hardware supported samplerate and the samplerate you want to use in your application or soundfile. Just replace "hw:1" with "plughw:1" in your application setup. The older Aureon USB (MK1?) - which I own - only supports 48kHz, whereas the new model according to the Terratec site supports 44.1 as well and even some other rates. However for best results (i.e. lowest latency) one should never use samplerates which aren't multiples of 1000 with USB devices, that is, 48000 Hz should be preferred over 44100 Hz anyways.
