Hi Thomas. Interesting result that. I'm not trying to interfere with the help Clemens is giving you, but try adding the module "uhci_hcd" to /etc/modules. I never had the problem with the midi module, but the usb midi keyboard wasn't working. I'm presuming your talking about a music keyboard rather than an alphanumeric one. Reboot. If its a music keyboard and it still doesn;t work, reboot again with the keyboard switched off. When it's rebooted switch the keyboard back on. If it now works you'll have to make some additions to /etc/modutils/sound. Come back to me if that works. The problem with the usb midi keyboard is that the usb starts very early in the boot process, Alsa is looking for cards, sees the midi keyboard and sets it as a soundcard Hw0, then sets the real soundcard as Hw1, resulting in no sounds. If it's an alphanumeric keyboard you're talking about, perhaps just adding the module "uhci_hcd" to /etc/modules may fix it. I use a ps2 connected keyboard so have no experience with usb ones. Nigel.
