Dear friend, I have a Terratec Aureon Space 7.1 and two sets of speakers connected to analogic AND digital spdif card exit. (FIRST) With Mandrake 10.0 (Alsa 1.0.2) I can play with the first or the latter set of speakers just changing (with a small script) the pcm.dmixer definition given below (pcm "hw:0,0" -> pcm "hw:0,1"). With Mandrake 10.1 (Alsa 1.0.6) I cannot play any sound with hw:0,0 (analogic) at all. I made many tests without any success. [I have the same behaviour with Arts (that I configure with Mandrake Control Center / Sound / Sound System / enable artds / hardware / select the audio device = OSS / override device location = /dev/sound/dsp or /dev/dsp)] When I execute aplay -D default file.wav I obtain "Playing WAVE 'file.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo" but no sound. Alsamixer shows that volume is ok. Is this a bug? I compared the code of ice1724.c and ice1724.conf (version 1.0.2 and 1.0.8) and they are indeed different but I'm not able to understand anything else. I've not yet decided to upgrade to 1.0.8. Is enough to follow the instructions on http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=AlsaBuild2.6 ? (SECOND) Doing my attempts to understand what is going on I discovered two other strange things. cat /proc/asound/{version,cards,devices,hwdep,pcm} and cat /proc/asound/oss/sndstat go loop (they never stop their output onto the screen). Ideas? Are the two things connected? ----------------------------------- MORE INFO: (1) .asoundrc is pcm.!default { type plug slave.pcm "dmixer" } pcm.dmixer { type dmix ipc_key 1024 slave { #0,1 for digital exit, 0,0 for analogic, #I change this to use the different speakers pcm "hw:0,0" format S32_LE period_time 0 period_size 1024 buffer_size 32768 #8192 rate 44100 } bindings { 0 0 1 1 } } ctl.dmixer { type hw card 0 device 1 } (2) aadebug (modified for problem 2) output is: Kernel ---------------------------------------------------- Linux PC_1 2.6.8.1-12mdk #1 Fri Oct 1 12:53:41 CEST 2004 i686 AMD Athlon(TM) XP2000+ unknown GNU/Linux Loaded Modules -------------------------------------------- snd-seq-midi 6624 0 snd-seq-oss 31232 0 snd-seq-midi-event 6080 2 snd-seq-midi,snd-seq-oss snd-seq 47440 5 snd-seq-midi,snd-seq-oss,snd-seq-midi-event snd-pcm-oss 49480 0 snd-mixer-oss 17376 1 snd-pcm-oss snd-ice1724 42436 0 snd-ice17xx-ak4xxx 3008 1 snd-ice1724 snd-ac97-codec 69392 1 snd-ice1724 snd-pcm 81800 2 snd-pcm-oss,snd-ice1724 snd-timer 20356 2 snd-seq,snd-pcm snd-page-alloc 7400 1 snd-pcm snd-ak4xxx-adda 5600 2 snd-ice1724,snd-ice17xx-ak4xxx snd-mpu401-uart 5856 1 snd-ice1724 snd-rawmidi 19300 2 snd-seq-midi,snd-mpu401-uart snd-seq-device 6344 4 snd-seq-midi,snd-seq-oss,snd-seq,snd-rawmidi snd 45988 12 snd-seq-oss,snd-seq,snd-pcm-oss,snd-mixer-oss,snd-ice1724,snd-ac97-codec,snd-pcm,snd-timer,snd-ak4xxx-adda,snd-mpu401-uart,snd-rawmidi,snd-seq-device Modprobe Conf --------------------------------------------- alias sound-slot-0 snd-ice1724 remove snd-ice1724 /sbin/modprobe -r snd-pcm-oss; /sbin/modprobe --first-time -r --ignore-remove snd-ice1724 install snd-ice1724 /sbin/modprobe --first-time --ignore-install snd-ice1724 && { /sbin/modprobe snd-pcm-oss; /bin/true; } Proc Asound ----------------------------------------------- MODIFIED HERE.
