I tried: debian:~# /etc/init.d/[g|x|k]dm stop bash: /etc/init.d/[g: No such file or directory bash: x: command not found bash: k]dm: command not found So I tried to interpret your notation. Maybe u were saying to stop gdm and/= or=20 xdm and/or kdm. xdm and xdm doesn't exist (i've seen it in the KSysV-Init).= I=20 tried to stop gdm:=20 debian:/etc/init.d# gdm stop GDM gi=E0 in esecuzione; chiusura in corso. (GDM is running; stopping...) But nothing happened.=20 So I rebooted the computer and asked for an xterm emergency session, hoping= =20 that maybe I would be able to close gdm. The same result: "gdm is running...".=20 I killed gdm. Wrong idea! A totally black screen then seemed to ask me to=20 reboot the system... =46or the other who tried to help me: "modprobe -r anything" always fail.=20 "Device or resource busy".=20 So how can I kill OSS modules, if these modules are always used by the syst= em=20 while I try to remove them?=20 On Tuesday 22 June 2004 23:53, you wrote: > sound is the basic OSS infrastructure module.. it should definetly be > unloaded.. i'd drop out of X [/etc/init.d/[g|x|k]dm stop] and then do the > modprobe -r from the console.. > > flo |
