Page flipping gives much smoother results in high resolutions as compared to double buffer - at least in my game where a 640x480 background is drawn everytime. Check out exflip.c for more info on using page flipping. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Emil Löfblom" <d9...@da...> To: <al...@ca...> Sent: Friday, March 30, 2001 8:36 PM Subject: [AL] Gaining some more FPS? Is there any thing I should think about to gain FPS when programming? Currenly I start to load all my bitmaps to the system memory, then use draw_sprite or blit if I don't need transparent pixels to draw all my objects to a buffer bitmap, and finally blit the complete buffer to the screen. I guess this is the easiest method to get a flicker free update, but far from the best method. Could I use the video to store my bitmaps in, should I have my buffer bitmap in the video aswell? Because of that the games background always moves 1 pixel or more it needs to be updated every time, therefore I guess using Dirty Rectangles wouldn't help me very much. |
