I don't think i can help you directly with the problem, but perhaps you can check out allegrogl (available via sourceforge) and see how it's done there? It might also take away the need to use your own scripts: allegrogl was meant exactly for what you are doing, to use allegro for keyboard/mouse input and texture loading, and leave the rendering to opengl. AllegroGL can be found here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/AllegroGL/ There is also a mailinglist for AllegroGL where you can post specific questions about the subject.
